Cecil Russell

June 15, 1930 ~ July 14, 2017 (age 87) 87 Years Old

Cecil James Russell
June 15 1930 - July 14 2017

Cecil passed away peacefully at the age of 87 at the Dalhousie Nursing Home. He will be deeply missed by his daughter Jane, and her husband Mato Kozic. He will be remembered by his grandsons, James and Timothy.

Cecil was predeceased by his wife Mildred, his parents William and Ruby Russell, by his brothers Ozzie and Raymond as well as his sister Valerie. He is survived by brothers Frank and Eddie and sisters Betty and Elaine.

Cecil lived in Calgary from 1949 until 1981. He worked for the Dominion Bridge Company and belonged to the Ironworkers' Union. He returned to Belledune, where he was a lobster and scallops fisherman until he retired. Cecil's biggest job with Dominion Bridge was as the Superintendent for the construction of the Calgary Tower, then known as the Husky Tower, receiving a Worldwide Recognition for Safety On The Job, as not one worker was hurt during the construction of the Tower.

Dad loved camping, and he and Millie belonged to the Hobo Trailer group. We went on many weekend camping trips around the province of Alberta. Dad enjoyed a good barbecue, with his favourite steak being a well-done Porterhouse. Dad was a great card player, winning many games of Crib and Queens. He also loved animals, all the ones I brought home, and especially all the dogs he had over his lifetime. Dad was always sharply-dressed and he liked to be clean shaven, with his moustache neatly trimmed. Dad was very generous to his family and friends, and would always pay the bill for dinners out. He was also a very intelligent man. He was handy with all kinds of tools, and could fix just about anything, from cars and boats to houses and all things in between. Dad taught himself how to weld, making beautiful stair railings, for our home and the neighbours. He loved his grandsons whom he always called Jimmy and Timmy even as they grew older.

Cecil will be forever missed and always in our hearts. You were my hero, Dad, and I will always love you. Until we meet again......in Heaven.

With special appreciation to the staff at the Dalhousie Nursing Home for their loving care of Cecil. Thank you.

His funeral will be held from St. John the Evangelist Church, Belledune, Tuesday, September 26, 2017 at 11 AM. Funeral arrangements are in the care of MacMillan's Funeral Home, Black Point
