Jean worked during WWII as a plant worker, manufacturing artillery shells in Ajax, ON; later, she studied hairdressing, working at Calva’s in Moncton; before her marriage to Theodore “Flea” MacDougall.

At the age of 10, Jean's family moved from Dunkirk, SK. to Black Point, NB; Jean's life experiences helped her to develop her strong character.  Working in the farming community with her parents and grandmother; she has passed on to her family a wealth of knowledge and her life experiences.

The community of New Mills, NB; was named after Jean's great-great grandfather George Dutch, who came from Scotland in 1826; the land the church is on in New Mills was donated by George Dutch and the schools that were in Black Point, NB were donated by Jean's grandfather Ebenezer MacMillan.
