Alfreda Godin Hynes Obituary

In life, we loved you dearly; in death we love you still. In our hearts you hold a place; no one else will ever fill.

On July 14, 2021, our dear mother Alfreda Godin Hynes passed peacefully at the age of 90 at the Sarsfield Colonial Home, in Sarsfield, Ontario. She went to be with her beloved husband, Edgar.

Freda will be remembered fondly by so many for her beautiful smile, her get-up-and-go approach to life, her abundant energy, and her work ethic. She was passionate about sewing and baking bread/ buns and pies and made a livelihood with these skills. While living in Niagara Falls, she worked for “Maid for You” over a period of 11 years and enjoyed every minute of her time with the “girls”. She loved playing Bingo, cards, and board games. She was quite competitive in any sports she participated in. She threw a mean dart and excelled at Pétanque. She was a devoted fan of music with her favourites being Loretta Lynn, Johnny Cash, and Elvis. She loved to sing and dance, especially with Dad. He was her soul mate and her rock.

She is lovingly remembered by her daughter Elaine (Barry) of Sauble Beach, ON, son Larry (France) of Russell, ON, daughter Gail of Vaudreuil Dorion, QC, and son Danny (Tara) of Niagara-on-the-Lake, ON. She will never be forgotten by her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survived by her sister Adelia Carrier, and her brothers Leonard (Adeline), Allison, and Jules (Julie). Predeceased by her parents Arthur Godin and Laura Gagnon, her sister Albina Lapointe (Peter), her brothers Aurel (Muriel), Johnny (Deloris), and granddaughter Amanda.

Arrangements have been made to hold a funeral service at Macmillan’s Drapeau Chapel (formerly Church of Our Lady of the Visitation) in Benjamin River on Thursday, August 18, 2022, at 11:00am followed by Interment at the Church of St. Maria Goretti Cemetery in Lorne.

The Celebration of Life will continue with a gathering at the Jacquet River Royal Canadian Legion following the service. We certainly don’t want anyone to feel obligated to attend but if any of Mom’s family and friends would Iike to, we would be so pleased to have a chance to meet them. The family is requesting any donations be made to The Parkinson’s Foundation of Canada

(donate.parkinson.ca) or (macmillansfuneralhome.ca).
