Arthur Roderick (Roddy) MacAllister of Charlo New Brunswick passed away peacefully at George Dumont Hospital in Moncton on Thursday, January 19th 2023 at the age of 79. Born in Seaside New Brunswick August 26th, 1943 he was the son of the late Melville MacAllister and Muriel (Ward) MacAllister.
Rod is survived by his wife of 57 years Patricia (Hamilton) and their three children, Shelly (Jack), Terry (Tracey) and Stacey (Yvan). Six grandchildren Kyle (Danielle), Bradley (Lori), Erin, Ryan, Madyson and Nolan and 4 great grand children, Mila, Rory, Levi and Rylie. Brothers, Ken(Carol) MacAllister and Melburne (Elaine) MacAllister. Sisters Cheryl (Donnie) Gallen and Norma (Yves) Lafleur; sister- inlaw Bonnie Hamilton; aunt Helen MacCurdy as well as many nieces and nephews.
Roddy was predeceased by his parents; brother Ray; sister-in law Bette (Finley) Cook; Brother- in law Peter Hamilton and mother- in law Stella (Sydney) Macnair.
As a young man, Roddy ventured to Ontario for work in the tobacco fields and soon after was followed by Pat while in Ontario, Roddy also worked for Standard Paving and Vipond Fire Protection. When he returned home to Northern New Brunswick he was employed as a pipe fitter at the paper mill in Dalhousie and later worked for Victor Bernard and Sons of Charlo once the Mill closed indefinitely. Roddy enjoyed snowmobiles, boats, tractors and pretty much anything that moved. He was affectionately known as “Papa” by his grandchildren and enjoyed giving them drives on whatever vehicle was in season.
A graveside service for Roddy will be held on Saturday August 5, 2023 at 2pm at the New Mills Cemetery, with a reception to follow at the Glen Burnie Hall in Charlo. Arrangements are in the care of MacMillan's Funeral Home, Black Point.
