Barbara Flanagan Obituary

It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mother, Barbara Ann (Lawlor) Flanagan at Victoria Glen Manor on Saturday, October 8, 2022, surrounded by family and friends.

Barbara is survived by her children Gerald, Mark, Shawn, and Cheryl and her eleven adoring grandchildren: Kendall, Erin, Brogan, Briah, Kate, Ryan, Jack, Casey, Keely, Kaitlyn and Lauren. She is also survived by her beloved brothers Ken (Sharolyn), Don (Patsy), and Frankie (Agatha), her beloved nieces and nephews and cousins in Navan Ontario, Florida, Minnesota, Boston, and Maine. She is predeceased by her husband Joey, son Kevin, daughter in law Ann Marie and granddaughter Brianna. She will undoubtedly be greeted at the gates of heaven by her parents, her sisters Theresa and Doreen, and her brother Gerald.

Barbara was born in Jacquet River, NB on December 27, 1941, to Peter and Olive Lawlor. She graduated from Saint Joseph’s School of Nursing, Chatham NB, in 1959 with her nursing diploma of which she was so proud. She worked both in Saint John NB and Dalhousie NB in the Pediatrics Department and was passionate about all the kids that she worked with. She will be remembered by many in the community for her nursing skills, including dressing changes and wound care from our home.

The most humble and kind human being, she will be remembered by so many in the Jacquet River community for all her exquisite baking, perfect handwriting and most of all her homemade bread. No one will ever make bread like mom. She was everyone’s “mom” with the biggest heart and the one who took anyone in, the one who would slide down the bank of the brook on a crazy carpet with her kids and the person who you could tell anything to.

She lived for her family and friends. Her most prized memories are when her siblings all came “home” to visit and when all her kids and grandchildren were with her. She was the life of the party, prankster of the best pranks and usually up to no good. “Auntie Boobs”, “Baba” and “Barbie” will be fondly remembered by her friends, siblings and their spouses for her quick wit, sense of humor and all her practical jokes. She had many wonderful friends whom she shared some great memories and lots of laughs with over the years.

We are grateful for the care she received when she moved to Perth Andover at both the Villa and the Manor. A special thank you to all the doctors, nurses, and staff for their care to mom over the years. To her special angels Naomi, Marnie, Sue and so many others that went above and beyond to make our mom feel special and loved. She was our entire world and we are thankful for your compassion and care.

We are eternally grateful to her “bestie” Gale who kept her room decorated for every season, had her hair always done perfectly, prayed with her and whom she treated as her own mother when we couldn’t be with her.

We know that wherever her rainbow leads her to now, she will be finding her friends to sing the “Crystal Chandelier” and the “Green Green Grass of home”. May they all come to meet you mom. Rest well–..

A celebration of life will be scheduled in the summer of 2023 in Jacquet River.

“Your journey on this earth is done, your fight has come to an end. Now it's time for you to go and rest your tired head.

We may no longer hear your laugh, now see your smile so bright. We may no longer feel your touch, nor hold your hand so tight.

But your memory will live on, like footprints in our hearts, so that we may know that though you’re gone, we will never part.

Everyday we’ll come to pray for the eternal rest of your soul, may God embrace you in his arms and welcome you safely Home”

A funeral service will be held at the St Gabriel's Church, Jacquet River, on August 4th, 2023 at 11am. Funeral arrangements are in the care of MacMillan's Funeral Home, Black Point.
