It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and great-great grandfather. Bert passed away at the Villa Renaissance, Dalhousie, with his wife Noella and granddaughter Natasha by his side on April 9th, 2023 at the age of 88. Born in Lorne, he was the son of the late John and the late Emma (Carrier) Lavigne.
Bert worked at the Belledune Smelter for 25 years until his health started failing him. During his lifetime he created so many special memories with his family. His grandchildren were his treasures and he was a Papa to everyone who knew him. Bert enjoyed bowling, playing cards and horseshoes with his friends. He also loved going to his camp and making maple syrup. He loved his sweets and loved when anyone brought him an apple pie or maple fudge.
He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years Noella, his sons Clement (Jessie), Leonard "Jack" (Catherine), Pat (Susan), Tony (Darlene) and David (Tina). Also his grandchildren Jody, Adam(Tara), Amie, Luke(Christine), Daniel, Natasha, Jordan, Chelsea(Keaton), Keira and Alex. Also survived by many great and great-great grandchildren Isabelle, Reid, Faith, Allie, Darnel, Jessica, Brea, Rylan, Brennen, Tristan, Charlotte, Cole, Marie, Lucy, Ethan, Harlo, Ella, Lila and Billie. A special mention to his lifelong friends Celestin Carrier, Leo Hickey, Amelia Godin, Raymond McGregor, Jimmy Hillard, Alfie Lavigne, Jacqueline Lavigne and Blondie.
With no siblings of his own he became very attached to his in laws Vincent, Norman (Leona), Sylvia (Jimmy), Maryanne (Bobby), Alice (Wayne), Joanne (Mario), Linda, Bobby (Pauline) and a niece Nicky who held a special place in his heart.
Bert was happiest when surrounded by family. They were his most valued worldly possession.
A heart felt thank you to the Renaissance Nursing Home staff for the excellent care he received during his short stay with them. Their kindness will never be forgotten.
A funeral service will be held at the St. Gabriel's Church, Jacquet River, on June 16th, 2023 at 2pm. Funeral arrangements are in the care of MacMillan's Funeral Home, Black Point.
