It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Christian Mercier at the Campbellton Regional Hospital on January 10th, 2026, at the age of 74 after a long, courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Mont St. Pierre, Quebec on May 28th, 1951, he was the son of the late Paul Emile and Georgette Mercier.
Christian is survived by his devoted wife of 54 years, Alma (née Doucet), his beloved daughters, Nathalie (Marc) and Wendy, his cherished grandchildren, Shane (Aya) and Jenny. He is also survived by his sisters, Pauline (Gaetan), Nicole (Regis), Patricia (Conrad), Suzanne (Andre), Lauraine (Roger), his brother Francis, as well as many in-laws, nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents he was predeceased by 3 brothers.
At 17 years old, Christian left home to join the Royal Canadian Air Force where he trained and worked as a mechanic and also served in overseas peace keeping missions. Over his lifetime, he was a jack of all trades. He was self-employed as an auto body painter, he later went on to earn diplomas in welding and pipefitting; working various jobs in those fields. Later in life he was a supply teacher and we were often told how much the kids loved Mr. Mercier. Christian also proudly served as a Campbellton City Councillor for 12 years.
Christian loved his family deeply. His greatest joy in life were his grandchildren, who could always count on him for laughter, stories and unconditional love. He had a special way of making everyone around him feel important.
Christian had a deep love for the outdoors. Whether he was fishing, hunting, gardening or simply enjoying nature, he was happiest when surrounded by fresh air and good company. He also had a special place in his heart for his dogs, who were constant companions and a source of endless joy. Even during his worst days, his dog Cooper and grand-dog Lexi would bounce into his room and bring a smile to his face.
Known for his incredible sense of humor, Christian could light up any room. He was extremely funny and had a natural gift for making people laugh, often turning ordinary moments into unforgettable memories. His laughter, stories and quick wit will be dearly missed by all who knew him. The mornings at Tim Hortons will never be the same without him.
Christian leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter and cherished memories that will live on in the hearts of his family and friends forever.
He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the War Amps or the Tree of Hope.
As per Christians wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral. He will be buried this summer in Mont St. Pierre, Quebec next to his brothers.
Arrangements are in the care of MacMillan and Drapeau Funeral Home.
