In Loving Memory of Darrell John Guitard
July 29, 1946 – April 2, 2025
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Darrell John Guitard, who left us peacefully on April 2, 2025, at the age of 78.
A lifelong resident of Jacquet River, Darrell was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and son. He is lovingly remembered by his wife Neil Guitard (Donnelly), his son Jeffrey and his wife Paulette, his daughter Jennifer and her husband Nick, and his cherished grandchildren Alex, Valerie, Zach and Chad. He is also survived by his siblings Kathy (Paul), Ricky (Miranda), Ronnie (Beatrice), Greg (Sue), and Theresa (Allan), as well as his beloved mother, Pearl Guitard (Furlong).
Darrell was predeceased by his son Jamie and his father Wendell, whose memories remained close to his heart throughout his life.
He dedicated his career to working at the Fertilizer Plant in Belledune, where he was respected for his hard work and commitment. After retiring at the age of 55, Darrell remained deeply involved in the life of his community. He was an active and caring member of both his church and the wider Jacquet River community, always ready to lend a helping hand or share a kind word.
Sports were a cornerstone of Darrell’s life. A talented athlete and a devoted mentor, he both played and coached baseball and hockey with heart, skill, and dedication. Whether he was out on the field or behind the bench, he brought a competitive spirit, a deep knowledge of the game, and an unwavering belief in teamwork and perseverance.
A proud fan of the Toronto Blue Jays and the Toronto Maple Leafs, Darrell rarely missed a game—cheering them on through every season with loyalty and enthusiasm. His love for sports extended beyond his own experiences; one of his greatest joys was watching his grandchildren play. No matter the sport, he was their loudest cheerleader and most devoted supporter, always beaming with pride from the sidelines.
For Darrell, sports weren’t just games—they were a way of life, a means of connection, and a source of countless cherished memories.
Darrell's warmth, humility, and quiet strength left a lasting impression on all who knew him. He will be remembered for his unwavering love for his family, his dedication to his community, and his strong faith.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, April 7 at 11:00 AM, at St. Gabriel’s Church in Jacquet River, where family, friends, and community members will gather to honor and celebrate his life. There will also be a small gathering at the Jacquet River Legion after the service.
