Edward Hachey Obituary

Edward Hachey

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Edward Hachey announce his passing, which occurred at the Chaleur Regional Hospital on March 20, 2021 at the age of 94.

Born in Jacquet River, NB he was the son of the late Joseph and Maude (LaPointe) Hachey. Edward worked for CN for 25 years only to return home to provide for his family and community as owner/operator of Eddy’s Restaurant. Many in the Chaleur region can remember a simpler time in life spent playing pool and hanging out with friends in the basement of the restaurant. Everyone and anyone was welcome to come play, as long as they paid their money down. He made the North Shore proud as people could come to a place that felt like home and be welcomed with a smile and a hearty meal. Edward was a tough but fair family man who had more stories then he had time to tell, knew more people then anyone could in 2 lifetimes and expressed more opinions then were sometimes welcomed.

“Papa” as he was affectionately known by his grandkids was routinely seen as larger than life, despite his small stature. He treated them all the same- with a big smile, kind heart and a joke or a prank, only to salvage their trust with a few homemade cookies.

His stories were legendary, ranging in subject matter from “remember that time when... “ to the tales of the big fish that got away. He loved to have people stop in, whether it had been 5 days or 5 years, to catch up and share a cup of tea. He was a man of great faith, an unequivocal supporter of both the liberal party and the Montreal Canadiens, unless of course either were on the losing side.

He was preceded in death by his wife Gloria (Harquail), son Albert, grandson Jonathan, great granddaughter Arin Marie, half sisters Isabelle & Melvina, sons in law Jeff & Walt, along with his siblings Arthur, Joe, Theodore, Ralph, Frank, Noella, Fred and Eugene. He is survived by his children Shirley of Kingston ON, Bob (Joan) of Moncton NB, Gloria (Kenny) of Jacquet River NB, Bernadette of Hamilton ON, Edward Jr. of Riverview NB, Joey (Kari) of Miramichi NB. Grandchildren Bruce, Loralie, Mike, Drew, Devin, Ashley and Trenton. Great Grandchildren Evann, Grace, Ben, Winston, Nico, Ellianna and Barrett.

During his time on this earth, he routinely filled our bellies and in passing, continues to fill our hearts as we reminisce of old stories. Father hasn’t left us, he has just gone fishing.

Due to current Covid-19 restrictions, a funeral service will be held at a later date. Funeral arrangements are in the care of MacMillan’s Funeral Home, Black Point NB.
