Ellis Kenneth (BOB) Pettigrew Obituary

ELLIS KENNETH (BOB) PETTIGREW
September 8, 1926 - January 21, 2022
Our family sadly announces the death of our Dad, Ellis Kenneth (Bob) Pettigrew, on Friday,
January 21, 2022 at Villa Renaissance Dalhousie, NB at the age of 95, after a brief illness. Dad
was born September 8, 1926 in Sea Side, NB to John and Bertha (Doull) Pettigrew.
He was predeceased by his wife, Mary Geraldine (Cline) Pettigrew, his parents, brothers and
sister, Mae Scott.
He will lovingly be missed by his children, Maxine (Alex) Craig, Ellison Dawn (Michel) Aube,
Dale (Myrna) Pettigrew, grandchildren, Jesse and Chelsea, great-grandson, Kade, sister, Nina
Sanderson, sisters-in-law, Daisy Walker, Patricia Cline, Ina Pettigrew, nieces and nephews.
Dad grew up in Sea Side and began his working life at a very early age at the Olsen Lobster
Factory. He fished lobster for a few years, then bought his first pulp truck and began hauling
logs to the local mills. Being a "Jack-of-All-Trades" and a "self-taught" Mechanic was his true
calling in life. If he wasn't full of grease and working on some motor, he wasn't happy.
His prized possession was his Massy Ferguson tractor with front loaders and backhoe which he
purchased in the early 60s and is still running today.
He worked for the Hickey and MacAllister families in Jacquet River at their garages and then on
to Charlo where he operated the "Fina Service Station" for many years. He closed up the "Fina"
and then went to work at the Charlo Airport as Mechanic and Runway Supervisor. His first
winter keeping the single runway plowed was done with his Massey tractor with a blower
attached to the back.
He took great pride in working at the Airport, keeping the runways cleared in the winter with his
work crew and keeping the machinery and equipment "fine-tuned". He spent many snow storms
sleeping on a cot in the lunch room to make sure that he would be there to open the road for his
guys to get to work.
Dad was a very generous guy with his time and mechanical skills. Many times cars, trucks,
tractors and boat motors would show up in the yard needing repairs and he never refused to
help anyone.
Dad had many friends and they all continued to visit him after he went to live at the Home. For
this, we were very grateful and thank all of you for your support over the years.
We would like to thank all of Dad's care givers over the past 6 years, most who are still working
and some who have retired. Your individual care and personal attention has been greatly
appreciated by our family. We also want to thank Dr. Louis Bujold for his professional treatment
and care to Dad over the years.
A funeral service will be held at the MacMillan's & Drapeau Chapel on May 28, 2022 at 2pm. Funeral arrangements are in the care of MacMillan's Funeral Home, Black Point.
