Floyd Roy Obituary

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Floyd Joseph Roy of Charlo on Monday, May 13, 2024 at the Saint John Regional Hospital surrounded by family.  He was 80 years old.

Floyd will be deeply missed by his beloved wife of 55 years, Norma (Blomquist) and his two daughters Diana Roy-Searle (Mark) and Karen Roy (Kurt) both of Saint John, NB.  He was also the cherished “Papa” of three  grandchildren; Abby, Owen and Leah and a father figure to three special nieces, Krystal, Precious, and Shari and nephew, Darren.

He was born in Nash Creek, NB on July 5th, 1943, and was pre-deceased by his mother Beatrice (Duplessis), his father Wilfred, and his brother Thomas (Sambo) Roy, sister Agatha Portelance and half siblings; Genevieve Snyder, Margaret McLaughlin, Helene Carrier, Lillian Boudreau, Adeline Furlotte, Alfred Roy, and Stewart Roy.

He is survived by his sisters Loza Guitard, Sophia Furlotte, and brothers Sheldon Roy and Danny Roy,  as well as many nieces and nephews whom he loved very much.

Floyd worked as an auto body repair man for many years and in his later years, he worked for the Village of Charlo which he always claimed was his favorite job.

Family meant everything to Floyd and Norma and their second love was managing a busy social life. There were many nights spent attending church suppers, dances and hosting card games, but their favourite way to spend time was playing music with friends. Floyd was always up for playing a George Jones song on his Gibson guitar with his good friend, Walter Jones.

Our hearts are heavy as we remember a wonderful man, husband, father, Papa, brother-in-law, uncle and friend, Floyd Roy.  His warm smile and gentil nature touched the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him. He was a simple man, who would do anything for anyone. He was always there to help and was very proud of his children and grandchildren who were the light of his life.

A celebration of the lives of both Norma and Floyd will be held at the MacMillan & Drapeau Chapel, Benjamin River on  Friday, July 05 at 11am. Funeral arrangements are in the care of MacMillan & Drapeau Funeral Home, Black Point, NB.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Floyd’s name can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Canadian Cancer Society or Alzheimer’s Society of Canada.
