On Thursday May 28th, Valerie Jean Kennedy (Roy) of Jacquet River, NB passed away at the age of 75 years old, after a short illness.
She is lovingly remembered by her husband William (Bill) Kennedy; sister Elizabeth (Walter); brother David (Monique); sister Cheryl (Luke), nieces and nephews, cousins, and countless friends. She was predeceased by her father William Roy, her mother Gladys Roy (Hickey) and her youngest sister Mary Yvonne.
Jean grew up “down the road” in Becketville. She spent her youth with her close friends having laughs, making memories and causing mischief. She married Bill at the age of 23, though they knew each other for many years before, since he just lived “up the road” toward Mitchell Settlement.
An avid woodswoman Jean knew her way around a moose stand as good as or better than some of the fellas that made it on the hunt. She kept them safe in the stand and even bagged herself a moose or two along the way. She loved nature, fishing and the outdoors.
As Bill’s forever co-pilot, you could find her either in the passenger seat of their truck hauling trailers from NB to BC and Alaska, or down to the USA or on the back of the 4-wheeler rain or shine. When not out adventuring Jean loved music. She could be found with the volume up singing to country and bluegrass tunes.
Though not blessed with children of their own, Jean gave her heart to all the children that passed through her life. She volunteered for years with Boy Scouts of Canada, babysat nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews, and many other children of friends. She always had gum and bag of crafts or a recipe. She taught patience and creativity. She loved who you were and was proud to see who you would become.
Jean could knit, crochet and sew. She could create simple socks or mittens or elaborate quilts. Every stitch with care and love. Every stitch free of charge and gifted. She stitched herself into the hearts of many and will be forever missed.
