Jean Smearer Obituary

It is with great sadness, but gratitude for a blessed life, that we announce the sudden passing of our dear mother, Jean  (Rosengren) Smearer.

Jean passed away peacefully at the Chaleur General Hospital on September 10, 2022, just the way she would have loved, surrounded by children and grandchildren.

Born on February 19, 1936, Jean was the daughter of the late William (Billy) Rosengren and Laura (McAuley) Rosengren.

Jean had three loves – Faith, Family and Friends.  Jean was married to the love of her life, John Smearer, who passed in 1997.  They had 6 children (Dale, Debbie, Myrna, Dawn, Sheri and Bill), 8 grand-children and 9 great-grandchildren, all whom she loved dearly (although she often called us by the wrong name).  Many of the grandchildren’s friends also referred to her as ‘Granny’, which tickled her.

Bethel Coffee and Conversation will never be the same without the ‘toast lady’, and Senior Drop-In will miss the ‘Queen of Hearts’.  Although involved in senior events, Granny was also able to throw down the moves on TikTok.

Jean is predeceased by her brothers George, John and Claude; and her sister, Myrna MacIntosh, passed away on September 11, 2022.  Left to mourn is her sister Rhoda (Percy) Smith.

Visitation will take place at Bethel United Church, Nash Creek, on Wednesday evening, September 14 from 7pm to 9pm; and the funeral will be held at Bethel United Church on Thursday evening, September 15 at 6:00 PM.  A combined reception for the late Myrna MacIntosh service and the late Jean Smearer will be held following Myrna's funeral at 2pm. Funeral arrangements are in the care of MacMillan’s Funeral Home, Black Point.

Her funeral service will be broadcast to the church parking lot on FM102.3 for those who wish to remain in their vehicles due to Covid concerns.
