John Mihaljevich Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John Ivan Mihaljevich on Monday, June 17th at home and in the presence of his loving wife of 66 years and his oldest son.

John was born April 13th, 1934 in Josip Dol, Croatia and came to Canada in 1957.  He first arrived in Ontario where he met and married the love of his life, Marjorie, shortly afterward.

They lived in Elliot Lake and Windsor, ON for 17 years where he worked as an electrician in the mines, and on the production lines for Ford and Chrysler, before moving to Marjorie’s family homestead in Black Point, NB in 1975.  With the help of Marjorie and their children, he built their new home in Black Point where he lived the rest of his days.

John worked as an electrician with Reggie Stewart Contracting and IBEW Local #2166 until his retirement. He’s also well known as the owner and operator of Camping By The Bay, which he proudly constructed from the ground up and ran with his wife for 20 years, until he was 86 years old.  John never hesitated to help anyone that needed it and often volunteered time to his community and church.  He enjoyed playing cards and never shied away from a big bid, especially if his daughter Amy was on the other side of it.  He was an avid hockey fan and spent numerous evenings watching games and eating late-night snacks with his children as they were growing up.

John will be greatly missed by all that knew him but especially by those who loved him most.  He was blessed with a family that loved him dearly; his wife, Marjorie (nee Brimsacle), his children John, Nick (Cheryl), Tammie (Dana) and Amy (Avi); his grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Aaron (Nicole), Clarissa (Vladimir), Elliot, Jessica, Sara (Ryli), Lillian, Jethro, Everett, Vivian, Cienna and his step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren Brock (Alyssa), Kira, Kelsey(deceased), Cordelia, Zephirin, Desmond, Valentina and Tiago, along with countless extended family members and friends both in Canada and Croatia.

John is survived by his sister, Kathy Jeusa and predeceased by his brother Nicolas Mihaljevic, and parents, Stjepan and Anka (Bokulic) Mihaljevic from Croatia.

Our hearts are heavy as we remember a great man.  He was a dedicated father who worked hard for his family and offered an endless amount of love and support for those he loved. His strength, courage, determination, and quick wit will be remembered in our hearts forever.

A funeral service will be held at St. Gabriel Church on July 8th at 11am.

Funeral arrangements are in the care of MacMillan & Drapeau Funeral Home, Black Point, NB.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in John’s name to St. Gabriel Catholic Church (Belledune, NB), the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society.
