Joseph Murray Carrier Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Joseph Murray Carrier of Belledune, NB, on May 10th, 2024 at the Chaleur Regional Hospital in Bathurst at the age of 81.

Murray will be greatly missed by his wife of 52 years Dorothy Baker, his three sons Bobby (Nadia), David, Scott (Lisa), and his daughter Melanie.  As well as by beloved grandchildren Zoe and Philippe.

Born in Lorne, NB, Murray was predeceased by his parents Francis and Laura (Francoeur) Carrier and by his siblings: Elric (Gloria), Nora (Alexander), Eva (Herman), Ethel (Edward), Donald (Cora), Stanley aka Mickey, Abraham aka Abe (Argentine), Elias (Alice), Edgar (Mireille).  Survived by one brother O’ Connell aka Joe/ Connie (Florence).

Besides his parents, he is predeceased by son Christopher.

Murray moved from Lorne to Murdochville, QC at the age of twelve when his father got a job at Gaspe Copper Mines Ltd.  During his early years there he attended the English Catholic School. His favourite pastime was frequenting the nearby pool where he spent many happy hours swimming and perfecting his diving skills.  As an adult he had various jobs around the town ie worked at the ski-tow for the ski lodge, delivered groceries for the Hudson,s Bay Company, and worked for the Road Department.  He also worked at Brunswick Mines in Bathurst for about three years before returning to Murdochville where he was eventually hired on at Gaspe Copper Mines to work underground as a Giraffe Operator.  As well he worked two stints at the Smelter there before retiring.  Murray took great pride in his work and rarely missed a day over the course of his employment.

Upon retirement he moved back to Belledune which brought back fond memories of his old stomping grounds.  His passion for the good old country music was once again rekindled as he enjoyed the many talented musicians and singers performing around the region.  He often liked to kick up his heels as he enjoyed a good old tune!  His great love for the outdoors was also renewed as he enjoyed feeding the birds, watching the wildlife, and planting flowers and shrubs until he could no longer manage it physically.  Then he would often spend his time sitting outside gazing around at nature’s wonders for hours!

There will be no visitation or funeral service. His immediate family have chosen to mourn and celebrate his life in a private manner while thanking all for their support and expressions of condolence during this difficult time! Funeral arrangements are in the care of MacMillan & Drapeau Funeral Home, Black Point.
