Margaret Joyce (Hamilton) Nichol
April 22, 1930 – May 4, 2026
As we announce the passing of Margaret Joyce (Hamilton) Nichol of Charlo, we the Family are saddened but grateful to have had her with us all these years. Joyce passed away at Campbellton Regional Hospital on May 4, 2026 at 3:10 am at the age of 96 years and 12 days. Born in Charlo on April 22, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin Donald Hamilton and Margaret Isabel (Hamilton) Hamilton.
Joyce attended Charlo School. She worked at many different jobs from housekeeping, running the dining room for Uncle Kenny and Aunt Lillian, being cook at Camp Chaleur and working at the Fish Hatchery in Charlo.
She was an active member of St. Paul’s United Church in Charlo where she taught Sunday School, Explores and CGIT. In later years Zion United Church, New Mills where she was active in UCW and the New Mills Cemetery. She was one of the founding members of the registered charity for the New Mills Protestant Cemetery where she was president until May of 2025.
Joyce had many hobbies she enjoyed quilting, knitting, gardening, sewing and making puzzles.
Joyce is survived by her daughter Margaret (Fenton) Yeo of Macklin, SK and son -in-law James Oakes of Penticton, BC and sister Jean Stewart of Dalhousie, NB. Grandchildren Neil (Kate) Ault of Halifax, NS. Marc (Julie) Ault of Fort St. John, BC. Andy (Tanya) Oakes of Penticton, BC, Tim (Tari) Oakes of Nanaimo, BC. Chris (Simone) Yeo of Saskatoon, SK, Beverly Yeo of Provost, AB and James Yeo of Macklin, SK. Great Grandchildren Liam & Luke Ault, Fort St. John, BC. Isaac & Ethan Ault of Halifax, NS. Emily & Abby Oakes of Penticton, BC. Hunter & Ryder Oakes of Nanaimo, BC. Claire & Evalyn Yeo of Saskatoon, SK.
Joyce was predeceased by her husband Bill, daughters Brenda Nichol & Barbara Oakes, her parents Benjamin and Margaret, sisters Ethel, Mildred and Ruby.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the New Mills Protestant Cemetery or a charity of your choice will be appreciated by the family. Funeral arrangements are in care of MacMillan & Drapeau Funeral Home.
The Family wishes to thank Dr. A Pelletier, Extra-Mural nurses, staff and doctors at Campbellton Hospital and home care aide Alannah. A special thanks to Karen, Kelly and Tammy for stepping up and covering evenings, nights and weekends. Her grandson, Neil, who came from Halifax to support her, returned when he was needed. Her grandson, Chris, who came from Saskatoon to be with her after she went to the hospital. Thanks also to all family, friends and neighbors who sent love and prayers these last couple of months with Mom’s sudden and fast decline.
