It is with profound sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Laura Lee Marie Carrier at her place of residence at the age of 61.
She was the common-law wife of Lionel Joncas of over 40 years. She leaves behind her daughter Amy (Mathew), mother Mariette Carrier, sister Treena Lapointe (Troy), brother Heath (Carrie-Ann) and brother Dwayton. She also leaves behind her step-children, nieces and nephew, cousins and many extended family. She had a special place in her heart for all her family in the Stanley/Fredericton region, her many coworkers at Jacquet River School and the rest of the Anglophone School District and all her friends from the Ladies Auxiliary. She was predeceased by her loving father William Carrier who she missed dearly.
Laura Lee was an incredibly dedicated worker. She started volunteering in her early adult life with various community organizations and beyond: Lions Club (helping to make food for children at lunch time), Parent Teacher’s Association (she’d always be seen around the schools and many kids got to know her that way), Heart and Stroke Foundation, Catholic Women’s League, Ladies Auxiliary at Legion Branch #77 (she received her lifetime membership in 2023), Canadian Cancer Society and many more. She helped at school events, legion events, assisted at funerals in the community, various fundraisers and community dances. She truly loved helping others.
She worked various jobs throughout the years: babysitting in the community, a flagger with Northern Construction, educational assistant and custodial work at various schools from Jacquet River to Dalhousie and most recently custodial work at Jacquet River School where she loved the children and her work family. She was known for her dedication to her work, her belief in the importance of education, and her humour. She loved a good joke with friends and family. She had a sweet laugh that easily made others laugh too.
She was often happiest in the company of animals. Whether it was birds flying outside, dogs, the horses up the lane from their house years ago or her own pets, she would beam with joy around all of them. She lost her beloved cat Nermal earlier this year and missed her beyond measure. Wherever Laura Lee was walking, Nermal would often be found by her side. She also had a special connection with the family pet dove named Snowflake.
She had a deep devotion to her community, was smart, compassionate and so very generous. She loved to give to others any chance she could. She was known for gifting just because she felt like it. She also loved gardening, attending bingos and picking berries in the summer. Her presence will forever be missed by all.
A funeral service will be held later in the spring or early summer. The date and time will be announced at a later date. Funeral arrangements are under the care of MacMillan & Drapeau Funeral Home, Black Point NB.
