Martin Smearer, formerly of Black Point, passed away peacefully with family by his side at the Georges Dumont Hospital on Wednesday, October 26th, 2022.
Living most of his life in Black Point, Martin owned a successful business and enjoyed working with the public on a daily basis. He was known and loved by many. Health issues unfortunately forced him into early retirement, however, he remained very active in the community.
Predeceased by his loving wife, Veta, one year ago, Martin leaves behind three children, son Rene Tremblay of Joliette, QC (Chantal), and two daughters, Lisa Beers & Lori Given, both of Fredericton. In addition, four grandchildren, Catherine, David, Justin & Samuel.
Brothers, Wayne, Danny & John (deceased) and sisters Cora, Kay, Nancy, Sheila & Brenda (deceased). Aunt Wanda Foster of Ontario and several nieces and nephews who all held a very special place in his heart.
Special thanks to the management and staff of The Briarlea on Ryan for the wonderful care shown to Martin in the last couple of years and as such, we request that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to The Briarlea Activity Department who will use this to deliver a wonderful “Ice Cream Memorial Party” for the residents there in Martin’s honour. There will be no visitation. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 26th, 2022 @ 2pm at the MacMillan & Drapeau Chapel in Benjamin. Interment will be held at the St. Maria Goretti Cemetery on September 09, 2023 at 11am.
