Nellie Carrier Obituary

Our mother, Nellie, passed away in the early hours of Monday, May 22, 2023 with her daughter, Sheila, and friend, Kim, by her side and holding her hands. Born in Murchie Settlement on February 10, 1941, the daughter of the late John A Lapointe and Mary (Carrier) LaPointe.

She is survived by five of her children:  Sheila of Nash Creek, NB; Anne (Darrin Carrier) of Bright, ON; Chris (Tracy) of Limoges, ON; Shawn of Plattsville, ON, and Tracy (Andrew Seebach) of Plattsville, ON; granddaughter Shelby, step-grandchildren Jessica (Matt) and Steven, and two step- great-grandsons.  She is also survived by her step-daughter, Ann.

Her eldest son, Sheldon, left us all in 1983.

Mom graduated from Nash Creek High School in 1958 and studied Business Administration in Campbellton, NB in 1959.  She started her career by working in Murdochville, QC, in October 1959 as a secretary at the Gaspé Copper Mines.  Once she was married, she became a stay-at-home Mom, and eventually moved back to Nash Creek, NB.  Mom started a material and craft store in the late 70s and also became active in the Guiding movement.  She only stopped those activities when she became sick.

In addition to Guiding and owning her own store, she was an active member of various local organizations.  She loved to share her passions with others, whether it was by teaching knitting, crochet, or quilting, to having fun playing darts and cards.

Mom is also survived by her sister Lillian Hickey, and her brothers John, Chester, and Murray. She was pre-deceased by her sisters Frances, Janice and Velma; and her brothers Omar, Vernie, and Barry.  She was also pre-deceased by her parents, Mary (Momma) and John (Papa) LaPointe.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate a donation to the Alzheimer Society of Canada, the Restigouche County SPCA, or to a charity of the donor’s choice.

Grateful appreciation is extended to the staff at the Villa Renaissance for their exceptional care of Mom during these last few years, and especially the past few days.  Your kindness will not be forgotten.

A visitation will be held at MacMillan & Drapeau Chapel on Sunday May 28 from 2pm - 4pm and 6pm - 8pm. Her funeral service will be held at St. Gabriels Church, Jacquet River on Monday, May 29, 2023 at 11am.

Arrangements are in the care of MacMillan-Drapeau Funeral Home, Black Point.
