Norma Roy Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear mother, Norma Opal Roy (Blomquist) of Charlo on May 18, 2024 at Kennebec Manor in Saint John, NB.  Her death comes only five days after the passing of her loving husband of 55 years, Floyd Roy.  She was 79 years old.

Born in Bathurst, NB on November 1, 1944, Norma was the daughter of the late Edward and Mary (Cook) Blomquist.  Predeceased  by her brothers George, Eldon, and William Gordon.

Norma will be deeply missed by her two daughters, Diana Roy-Searle (Mark) of Rothesay and Karen Roy (Kurt) of Saint John.  She was the beloved  “Nanny” of three grandchildren; Abby, Owen and Leah.

She is survived by her four sisters Ingrid Paulin, Barbara Jean Babin, Wanda Jones (Walter), Audry Blomquist, and brother Willie Blomquist (Noella); sisters-in-law, Judy Blomquist, Loza Guitard, and Sophia Furlotte; brothers-in-law, Sheldon (Shirley) Roy and Danny Roy, as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends who will miss her unwavering kindness and love.

Norma worked for Eddy’s Home Hardware and Building Supplies in Dalhousie for many years. After retirement, she took on a new role caring for a dear friend for several years.

Those who knew her, loved her.  A beautiful lady inside and out, Norma was the glue that held the family together and the one that many went to for advice.  She was genuine, kind-hearted, fun loving and never had a bad word to say about anyone.

Auction 45 was the family card game and she played often.  In later years, she enjoyed playing bingo with her sisters.  She couldn’t pass up a good yard sale and never left the house without her earrings and lipstick.

Norma and Floyd loved a good sing-song. Floyd sang and played guitar, Norma, by his side, harmonized and offered song suggestions. These were their best times. Family was everything to them and you were always welcome at Floyd and Norma’s house.  You were greeted with smiles, tea was put on, sweets came out and there was always ice cream available for the kids.

The sudden loss of both Floyd & Norma only days apart has been devastating, however, we take comfort in knowing that for them, it is a blessed reunion.

The family wishes to express our sincere appreciation to the staff at Kennebec Manor in Saint John for the wonderful care and compassion shown to our Mom during her short time as a resident, especially in her last days.  A special thank you to mom’s at home caregiver, Shari, for her kindness, patience and support.

We would also like to acknowledge and express our gratitude to Norma’s niece, Precious, who visited mom every day while she was at the Campbellton Regional Hospital.

We are thankful beyond words for the love, care and humour you provided both mom and dad. We know they thought the world of you.  A celebration of the lives of both Norma and Floyd will be held at the MacMillan & Drapeau Chapel, Benjamin River on  Friday, July 05 at 11am.

Funeral arrangements are in the care of MacMillan & Drapeau Funeral Home, Black Point, NB.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Norma’s memory can be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada.
