It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Evan Hickey, CPA, CMA, on September 13, 2023 at Albert House hospice home.

Evan was born in Jacquet River, N.B. on August 27, 1929. He was the son of the late Irvin Hickey and the late Annie (Shannon) Hickey. He is survived by his loving and supportive wife, Emeline (MacRae) Hickey and their children, Colleen Samson of Hillsborough, Rosa Brown (Derrick) of Ottawa, Glenn (Kathie) and Don of Riverview, Keith (Alison) of Toronto; eight grandchildren, Shannon, Andrew, Robyn, Kristen, Sean, Sarah, Brynn & Liam; five great grandchildren Landon, Evan, Cameron, Cohan & Scottie Rose; Sisters Kay (late Bill) Delahunt, and Monica (Harold) Bourque, both of Moncton.

He was predeceased by his brothers Irvin Jr. (in infancy), Owen (Monica) and his sisters, Iva (Arthur) Jenkins, Inez (late Alban) Mazerolle, Ada (late Cully) Frenette, Theresa (late Lyle) Gray and Francis (late George) Smith.

Evan retired from VIA Rail in 1990 as Regional Manager, Administration, with 33 combined years of service with CN & VIA.

Evan volunteered with many charitable, community and veterans organizations; Council 9270, Knights of Columbus, The Irish Canadian Cultural Association, The North Shore Regimental Assoc., The Hong Kong Veterans Assoc., The Royal Canadian Legion, The Riverview Veterans Assoc., and the Probus Club of Greater Moncton.

We would like to thank Dr. Harb and his team, Dr. Cyr and her office assistant, Ursula, the staff at Maison Albert House and Jillian and the EMH team.

Dad loved spending time at his cottage in Jacquet River, NB surrounded by family & friends. He was generous & kind and enjoyed helping people especially during income tax season. He loved all his kids and McPesters and was so proud of all of us. He will be so dearly missed.

The interment of Evan Hickey will be Saturday, August 3rd at 11:00 am at St. Gabriel the Archangel Cemetery.  Reception to follow at the Royal Canadian Legion at 3843 Main Street in Belledune.   Family and friends are invited to attend mass on Sunday, August 4th, at 11:00 am, where the Sanctuary Lamp will be in his memory.  A mass will also be offered for Evan Hickey on Wednesday, August 7th at 9:00 am.
