With heartfelt sadness, we wish to announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mother, Pearl Rosalie Guitard on November 26th , 2025 at the Campbellton Regional Hospital. She lived a very full and enriched 100 years.
Born on September 4th 1925, Pearl would experience many historic events in her lifetime. As a young child , she loved skating on the local ponds with her sisters, brothers and friends from the village. As a young woman , she worked for a short time as a live-in Nanny but when the Second World War broke out, she wanted to do her part for the war effort. She travelled by train to Toronto to work in a munitions factory. Along with thousands of women from across Canada, she did what she could to help " the boys overseas". Some of her work included putting the pins in hand grenades and rivets in airplanes. She used to joke that she hoped the planes stayed up in the air. One of those "boys" was the love of her life , Wendell. So, when the war ended and he returned home , they were married and began their life together.
Over the next few years as the children came along, they moved between Jacquet River, Murdochville Quebec and Sudbury Ontario wherever full time work could be found. Eventually, with the construction of the Belledune Smelter and Fertilizer Plant in the early 1960's , full time employment came closer to home and our family returned to Jacquet River to stay.
After Wendell passed away in 1985 , Pearl started her life as a young widow. She joined Dusty Sneakers, The Bowling League and The Golden Age Club. She loved playing cards and chatting with friends. She was a member of the Catholic Women's League and the Legion Ladies Auxiliary for over 50 years. She took trips to Florida, New York City and Nashville and was always proud of the fact that she saw the country star Garth Brooks live in Nashville. Pearl loved watching sports, basketball, baseball , hockey and curling .She was a huge fan of the Toronto Raptors, the Toronto Blue Jays and, yes, even the Toronto Maple Leafs. She got a big surprise this September when her 100th birthday was announced on national television during the World Series game between the Toronto Blue jays and the New York Yankees. (Toronto won that game in Yankee Stadium)
Mother, Grandmother and Supernanny to her great grandchildren, she will be sadly missed by all of us. She leaves behind five children, Gregory (Sue) , Theresa(Allan) , Ronnie (Bea), Kathy (Paul) , Ricky (Miranda), and her beloved daughter in law Neil. 12 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren , one sister in law, Amelda Furlong as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Wendell, her son , Darrell her grandson, Jamie as well as her parents James and Theresa Furlong and her brothers and sisters
