Reid MacPherson Obituary

Reid Robert MacPherson, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully in the presence of loved ones on August 8, 2024.

Reid was born to Isabella Greenan and Robert MacPherson on October 26, 1942, in Edinburgh, Scotland. ‍Reid was the oldest of five brothers, Stuart (Jeanie), Jimmy(deceased), Ian and Bruce (Jackie).

‍In 1968, Reid married his sweetheart, Frances Letourneau. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and the joyous hustle and bustle of raising their three children: Darren, Trevor, and Angela.

Reid loved meeting people on every outing, was dedicated to his family and community working as a coach with Minor Hockey, Baseball and Curling. Reid served as chairman of Bon Ami Parade, Dalhousie Curling Club, NB Curling Association, Restigouche Golf Club and 2003 Canada Games. His coaching of the NB Junior Girls Curling Team, including his daughter Angela as Mate, brought them to Nationals in 1992. For this achievement the team was inducted into the Dalhousie Sports Hall of Fame. Reid loved everything about Hockey. He loved every aspect of the game . He held a special spot for the Dalhousie Rangers and Montreal Canadians.

For his dedication to the community, Reid received an award for the 100 People Who Make a Difference.

Reid's legacy is also carried on by his four grandchildren: Samantha, Halleigh, Summer Grace and Matteo. Each of them will remember their grandfather for his boundless energy, a very active and loving “Pappy”, cheering from the sidelines at their games, or sharing his love for all team sports.‍

In 1999, Reid and Frances suffered the loss of their beloved daughter Angela. Their strength and faith through this loss has inspired the large community that support them. Reid tirelessly worked with the Province of New Brunswick to have many kilometres of animal crossing/fencing built in Northern NB, protecting countless motorists.

‍An avid outdoorsman, Reid found solace in the serenity of nature. He enjoyed adventurous camping trips with the family and close friends. Snowmobiling was a passion for him and he enjoyed the adventures, time with great friends, and loved meeting new people on every outing.

His home with Frances was filled with the sounds of family and friends, always welcoming a visitor rapping on the door of the sunporch.

A funeral service will be held at the St John Bosco Church, Dalhousie on October 11th, 2024 at 11am. Funeral arrangements are in the care of MacMillan & Drapeau Funeral Home, Black Point.
