The death of Joseph ‘Rene’ Cormier of Belledune occurred at the Chaleur Regional Hospital, May 26, 2021 at the age of 76. Born in Belledune, Rene was the son of the late Armand and Germaine (Martel) Cormier.
Rene is survived by his wife of nearly 55 years, Theresa (Doucet), daughter Cindy Cormier (Josh Arnold) of Halifax NS, son David (Bonnie Stewart) of Windsor ON, grandchildren Isaac, Oscar, Angus, and Josephine, and sister Marcelle Snyder. Rene was predeceased by his son Stephen, grandson Finn, and siblings Carmel, Jeannine, and Roger.
Rene served as a Canadian peacekeeper in Cyprus, then he was employed as a supervisor at the Belledune Smelter until he retired at 54 years of age. He spent six decades fishing lobster in the waters off the land he was born to. To his kids he was a maker, a solver of problems and a quoter of wise expressions. He was purposeful, reliable, and resolute in making sure his family was cared for, yet had a playful streak that those who knew him best will miss deeply.
Due to Covid restrictions, funeral services in Belledune will be held at a later date. Arrangements are in the care of MacMillan’s Funeral Home, Black Point. Online condolences and donations to the NB Chapter of the Canadian Cancer Society are gratefully appreciated.
