Rose Boulay Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mrs. Rose Boulay, aged 101, of Belledune NB.

Born in County Cavan Ireland, “Grammy Rose” met Horace, a Canadian Soldier and the love of her life, in wartime London. She emigrated to Canada as a War Bride in 1945 and quickly integrated into a new life on the family farm in Northern NB.

Although she never did lose her lovely Irish brogue, she adapted magnificently to her new home and became an active member of St John the Evangelist Parish as a member of the Catholic Women’s League for 77 years, baking many pans of her delicious squares for various events. She was recognized for her contributions to life in her new community as Senior Citizen of the Year in 2006 and held a life membership to both the Irish Canadian Cultural Association of New Brunswick and the New Brunswick War Brides Society.

Hosting countless Boulay family members on the family homestead over several decades, “Grammy Rose” could whip up a turkey dinner for 20 effortlessly well before noon - as afternoons were reserved for raucous games of Auction, where she always kept a sharp eye on the men (who were known to cheat).

Survived by her sister Ellen Connolly of Lisnaskea, County Fermanagh, Ireland, and sisters-in-law Bernadette Turner of Moncton NB, Esther Roy of Bathurst NB, Georgette Boulay of Belledune NB and Ann Kelly of Charlottetown PEI, she was predeceased by siblings Hugh, Phil, Bernard, Margaret, Maureen, Anne and Susan, as well as her husband Horace. She leaves to mourn her three daughters Paddy Ann (Arthur), June (Robert) and Marian (John), four grandchildren Kara, Errol, Mary Beth and Jillian, eight great-grandchildren Hannah, Abby, Georgia, Mallory, Claire, Jansen, Louis and Juliette, and many extended family members across the US, Canada and the pond.

There will be no visitation. Funeral mass will be held on June 17th at 11 am at St John the Evangelist Church in Belledune. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your charity of choice.
